Double Balloon Enteroscopy

Double Balloon Enteroscopy is a procedure that can be performed to further evaluate the small bowel which is out of reach of standard endoscopy (gastroscopy or colonoscopy). The endoscope is specially designed with an overtube to allow passage of the endoscope deep into the small bowel.

The main reason for performing this procedure is to further evaluate and treat gastrointestinal bleeding originating in the small bowel as well as to evaluation of suspected small bowel malignancies and the evaluation of small bowel Crohn’s disease.

This procedure is generally well tolerated but only performed that specialised centres in Melbourne.
